Former President of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Gottfried Schädl passed away at the age of 96 years old, reported on the official website of the organization.

The cause of death of Shedl is not specified. C 1964 years he was a member of the IWF executive committee, and with 1972 by 2000 year headed the federation. Tamash Ayan succeeds IWF Shedl as President, who was temporarily suspended in January this year.

“Being one of the most significant figures in international sports, Shedl left his mark on weightlifting. IOC (IOC) also awarded him the Olympic Order. IWF expresses sincere condolences to his wife Eve, family and Austrian weightlifting Federation”, – the message says.
